Description

The House of  Beresford – Volume 1

The  first volume of a two volume history written by long term researchers of the Beresford Society aiming to bring members up to date with the latest findings into the early 21st century and lay out the research into the origins of the first recorded usage of the family surname. This  volume  covers the origins of the Beresford family on the Derbyshire /Staffordshire borderlands and the first five hundred years, 1227- 1727, looking in depth at the senior branch which emanated from Beresford Dale. Each of the chapters has a similar format making reference to updated pedigree charts, looking at the most recent research and information available and tracing the family story of each son of Thomas and Agnes Beresford’s sons on into the 18th century. There are many interesting illustrations which help add to the historic background to the book and the writers bring their research to bear on some of the accepted stories of the Beresfords and ask questions about the historicity of some of them.
