Update on the Beresford Wills – Oct 2026

Finally. All the Beresford Wills that have been transcribed are noe uploaded onto the website.

Please keep these for personal use and don’t put on public sites, such as Ancestry and FMP.

They represent a lot of dedicated work by BFS researchers and are intended for use by BFS Membership.

There are some gaps in the numbering system where data has been lost over the years.
Hence the reason to put these on to a BFS resource database.

If you have other Wills that you could share through the Website then please send to research@beresfordfamilysociety.com
and then we canjput them into the BFS database.

    Many thanks

Just a heads up on this one.

We have successfully added our Beresford records for the UK 1841 census onto our Development site.

This means that Members will be able to search and view records for over 2,000 Beresford identified in the 1841 census.

This will begin a longterm process to upload all our extensive data from censuses and parish events.
Tens of 1,ooos of records available to help locate “who you are descended from.”

    BFS Customer Care Policies

With the development of the website the Committee have sat down and set out a series of policies that explain the way that we try to work, spelling out the ways we think we should should relate to each other and to those who visit the website.
Our Society is built on friendship and respect.

That’s why it’s still an active Society that is looking to expand the way it works and to value the huge effort put in by lots of volunteers. The policies are necessary but hopefully reflect the warm personal friendships that have built up over the years.

    Annual General Meeting 2026

    Mike Beresford writes,

“I believe everyone has enjoyed this year’s gathering, much to my relief! My attention must now move to next year’s event. To that end I am pleased to say that we have already booked the Dovedale Suite at the Bentley Brook Inn, Fenny Bentley for our evening meal on Saturday, 16th May, 2026.
The inn also has good accommodation and, as with this year, members of the society can book a room by contacting them direct and receive a 10% discount. Please tell them you are BFS members attending the gathering.
Next year’s gathering will be held at the same time as Tissington’s Well Dressings event. This will provide an added attraction for many of us but, could make finding accommodation a little more difficult. So book early is my advice.

    BFS Membership Fees to Increase

We held the AGM at the National Memorial Arboretum and one of the topics brought up at the AGM was ‘Subscription Fees’.  After reading out the Membership Secretary`s report and the figures relating to the postage of magazines, it was evident that the society is making a loss.  It amounts to £1.28 per UK member per year and £6.64 per overseas member per year.  It was proposed to increase the subscription fees for UK members from £15 to £20 and Overseas members from £20 to £30.  This was discussed at length and a majority agreed that this was necessary to cover future postage costs for the next few years.  On the back of this, there was also a proposal for subscription fees to remain the same, if members elected toreceive the quarterly magazines electronically (PDF) to their email accounts.  This was also voted on and again a majority agreed.  If there is anymember who would like to receive their magazines as a PDF and keep their subscription fees at the current rate, please email me at: davchairman@beresfordfamilysociety.com

    BFS to Launch New Website

Chairman Dave Berrisford spoke about the need to update our website at the AGM in 2025.

We’ve been working away at this to implement the possibility of Membership being available online, the possibility of purchasing Beresford goods through the Web
and to have a forum where Members can communicate.

We launch the first phase of this site on August 5th
